How it works
All processing happens locally, in your browser. Your image is never sent to any server, which keeps things more private and secure. The image is decoded and redrawn over a white background (since JPG has no transparency) and then recompressed at the chosen quality level. Lower quality means a smaller final file, but more visible compression artifacts. JPG is usually the best choice for photos, since it compresses images with many tones well; PNG is better for logos, text and screenshots with sharp edges, because it compresses without loss. If you need a smaller file to send by email or publish on a website, converting to JPG usually cuts the size a lot.
