How it works
Pascal and kilopascal are units of the International System. Bar and atmosphere are common in meteorology and diving, psi is used mainly for tire pressure in the United States, and millimeter of mercury (mmHg) shows up in weather forecasts and blood pressure readings. One bar equals 100,000 pascals. A car tire often calls for about 32 psi (≈ 2.2 bar or 220 kPa); since gas-station gauges show psi, bar or kPa, convert the manual's specification to your gauge's unit. A blood pressure of 120/80 mmHg is about 16.0/10.7 kPa, and 1 atmosphere is 760 mmHg. Tire gauges measure pressure above atmospheric; this converter only changes units and does not add or subtract the air's pressure.
