Kilogram and gram are units of the International System (metric), while pound and ounce are imperial units, common in the United States. One kilogram equals 1000 grams. The ounce (oz) in this converter is the avoirdupois ounce (28.35 g), used for food and everyday weighing in the United States. The troy ounce (31.1 g), used for precious metals such as gold and silver, is a different unit and is not on the list.
