How it works
Second, minute, hour, day and week are the most commonly used time units in everyday life, all derived from the second, the base unit of the International System. One hour equals 60 minutes. The second is the base unit of the International System of Units and is defined from the frequency of the radiation of the caesium-133 atom (9,192,631,770 oscillations). The millisecond, one thousandth of a second, shows up a lot in website performance and in programming. Months and years are not on the list because their length varies (28 to 31 days; 365 or 366 days), so there is no fixed conversion for them. For everyday durations: 1 day = 86,400 seconds, 1 week = 604,800 seconds, and 90 minutes = 1.5 hours. In programming, wait times are often given in milliseconds: 250 ms is 0.25 s, and 1,500 ms is 1.5 s.
