How it works
PNG is a lossless format: screenshots, charts, diagrams and scanned text stay sharp inside the PDF, without the compression blur a JPG would leave on the edges of letters. In exchange, the PDF is usually larger than one made from JPG photos. If the PNG has transparent areas, the PDF keeps them; since the page is white, they show as white in most viewers. The layout (A4, Letter, Auto and margin) is explained in Images to PDF. A worked example: a 1920 × 1080 screenshot in A4 portrait is scaled to the usable page width (about 547 points); in landscape it fills about 794 × 447 points, which is much bigger on the page. For wide screenshots, landscape is usually the better choice.
