How it works
Flipping horizontally mirrors the image from left to right, like a reflection in a vertical mirror. Flipping vertically mirrors it top to bottom. Both options can be combined at once. Flipping horizontally is how you undo a mirrored selfie (when your camera saved it that way) and how you make the reversed version of an image for a design. Watch out for text: once flipped, letters come out reversed, as read in a mirror. Flipping vertically turns the image upside down, like a reflection in water. Product and landscape photos often use it to create reflection effects. Flipping does not change the image's size in pixels.
